Exceptional Learning Programs

Academic Class for Excellence

The Academic Class for Excellence (ACE) is designed to help students develop the skills they need to succeed in high school.

Students enrolled in ACE will:
  • meet with ACE instructors every other day for 90 minutes.
  • receive individual and small-group instruction emphasizing reading, writing, and math skills in order to support them in accessing their classwork. 
  • receive executive function coaching to support organizational and study skill development.

DeSales Seminar

The DeSales Seminar provides specialized support to students who have a diagnosed learning disability. In this class, experienced special educators provide dedicated individual and small-group instruction and closely monitor students' work.

Students enrolled in DeSales Seminar will:
  • attend the program daily for grade 9 and every other day for grades 10-12. 
  • receive personalized instruction and coaching within the context of their individual course loads.
  • be encouraged to develop strong time management, executive functioning, organizational, assessment, and study techniques.

Every student deserves the best education, no matter how they learn. That’s why we are in our 27th year of offering Options. 
  • Provides students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities access to an individualized, inclusive, student-centered Catholic education 
  • Promotes the inherent dignity of ALL human persons
  • Supports the greater school community in carrying out the school mission by providing all students the means to achieve spiritual, intellectual, personal, social, and physical development according to the teachings of the Gospel and St. Francis de Sales.
Through highly individualized plans, Options encourages each student to become fully included in the school community.

Concerning Accommodations:

Please reach out to Dr. Adam Bigbee and Mrs. Lauren Hawkins ’01 to coordinate student assistance plans and accommodations at Paul VI. You do not need to be enrolled in one of our academic support programs to receive accommodations.

Dr. Adam Bigbee will serve as the SSD coordinator for SAT, ACT, and PSAT accommodations. The College Board and ACT require you to apply separately for accommodations on those tests. Please start the process of securing accommodations early.
