PVI Student's Talents are Showcased this Summer
Being part of an orchestra, learning about artificial intelligence, and mentoring young students are a few ways to make the most of the summer months.
Karina Velasco '25 joined other talented musicians in the Advanced Honor Orchestra during the Summer Orchestral Institute of the Loudoun Symphony Youth Orchestra (LSYO). The week culminated in the performance of three pieces, including Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, alongside world-class musicians from the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra and guest concert pianist Justin Badgerow under the musical direction of Dr. Hayden Denesha.
Karina also participated in the HOYA Summer Program Artificial Intelligence (AI) Academy at Georgetown University, where she previewed on-campus learning and living for a week with a packed schedule of AI topics and discussions like AI History, generative AI, chatbots, robotic AI, and AI ethics. Her group collaborated on a capstone project entitled, “The Rise of AI in Visual Art,” which calls for a redefinition and evaluation of creative careers in the presence of AI.
To round out the summer, Karina served as a violin mentor for young musicians at PVI Pops Camp. Way to go, Karina!
