Future Entrepreneurs Shine in Business Design Competition

Seven students from PVI participated in the Marymount Business Model Design Competition this past weekend.
These motivated students worked on their business plans over the last few weeks, including meeting several times with Marymount business professor Dr. Carlo Ninassi. Students designed presentations supported by detailed accounting schedules.

PVI's two student teams were:
  • Eclora (Sian Chen ’27, Lexi Dutton ’27, Taylor McKinney ’27, and Ben Mullins ’25). This team designed jewelry embedded with a photochromic resin which detects UV rays, changing color to let the wearer know when they need to re-apply sunscreen. They articulated an exciting vision of where fashion meets function, and had many great ideas for growth and collaborations going forward.
  • SettleIn (Jackson Hayken ’26, Willow Jeffery ’26, and Jake Miller ’26). This team designed an app which creates a superior alternative for how incoming college freshmen can match with a roommate. SettleIn would be sold to universities, who would then make it available to their rising freshmen. Based on its design and positioning, their app would be more effective and secure than existing options for matching with roommates.
The competition consisted of a working session at Marymount on Friday night with business professor Dr. John Jamison, where students refined their plans and presentations. On Saturday, they competed in a semifinal round. Kudos to PVI computer and business teacher Mr. John Howard for stepping up to judge! Eclora advanced to the final round, competing against first place winners from Ireton and O'Connell. Dr. Joe Vorbach, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Arlington, was a judge of the final round. While PVI did not take first place, the Marymount Business Model Design Competition was a valuable and educational experience for our talented students.
