SERVICE REQUIREMENTS 2011 - 2012
Goal: Students will be challenged to do acts of service leading them to encounter the poor, sick disabled, alienated, dispossessed, or marginalized in the community. These acts of service offer the students the lifelong possibility of charity. They are asked to stretch beyond their comfort zone and to become more aware of the difference each of them can make in the world using their God given talents.
Performing, Recording and Reporting:
1. Performing - Acts of social justice service to the community (see below for class details) outside of school hours.
2. Recording – Both Service Log and Reflection Sheet must be fully completed by the student and signed by the Supervisor.
3. Reporting –First semester forms must be submitted by Tuesday, December 6th during your theology class period. No forms will be accepted after 3pm. – No Exceptions
Required Types of Service
Seniors—5 Hours Direct Service with a person(s), unrelated by family or friendship, who is: poor, sick, disabled, alienated, dispossessed or marginalized.
Juniors—10 Hours Direct Service with a person(s), unrelated by family or friendship, who is: poor, sick, disabled, alienated, dispossessed, or marginalized.

Important Do’s & Don’ts
1.All Service must be fulfilled outside of school hours (Peer Mentoring with our Options program is the only exception, for freshman, sophomores and seniors, however is not accepted for juniors.)
2.Failure to Perform, Record or Report will result in the lowering of the student’s semester Theology grade by one level (for example: C grade will be lowered to a D; a C- to a D; a D to an F, etc.)
3.Absence the day forms are due is not an excuse, since the students can turn forms in to their religion teachers at any time during the semester until the due date. – No Exceptions
4.Service to family, including extended family, does not fulfill any requirement.
5.Parents may not “sign-off” on the hour log under any circumstance.
6.Students, not parents or supervisors, are responsible for fulfilling their specific requirements and completing forms.
7.Only Campus Ministry can approve or make changes to the above stated policy. Contact campusministry@paulvi.net or at 703-352-0925 x330 with questions.
