Press Release August 26, 2015:

The Paul VI Athletic Department is proud to announce that Ms. Patti Hinko will take over as the new head coach of our softball program.

A 2006 Paul VI alumnus, Hinko earned two bachelors’ degrees at Duquesne University and is in her 5th year of teaching English at PVI. She began her coaching career while in college, as a varsity assistant at Avonworth HS (Pittsburgh). Coach Hinko went on to serve as an assistant at Westfield HS, before becoming the JV head coach at Paul VI for the last two years. Her 20 years of softball experience includes 11 years as a travel and high school player, as well as four years working as an ASA umpire. Hinko also continues to play competitively in the Fairfax Adult Softball League.

"Coach Hinko's skills as a teacher, her familiarity with PVI and her knowledge of the game made her a perfect choice for the job. She is a great role model for our school," remarked PVI Athletic Director Billy Emerson. "Her abilities and determination will play a big part in the continued growth of a traditionally strong program." Hinko added, "I'm excited for the opportunity to build upon the established tradition of PVI softball being one of the best teams in the conference and the state."

Hinko will replace former WCAC and VISAA Coach of the Year E.J. Thomas, who retired last spring after leading the Panthers to over 250 wins, eight championship games, and one state title in his 17-year career.
